Meet Your Councillors

The size of the Town Council is based on the size of the population so in Stonehouse there are 14 Councillors. Local Councillors do not have to be affiliated to a political party.

The Councillors listed below were elected in May 2016.

Each year, at the Annual Meeting of the Town Council, Councillors will vote for a Chair (Mayor of Stonehouse) and a Vice-Chair (Deputy Mayor)

Register of Members' Interests

All sitting Council Members need to disclose and register all declarable pecuniary and other interests as part of the Code of Conduct they enter into when voted or co-opted onto the council.

The register of members' interest can be found on Stroud District Council's website at the following link: Register of Members' Interests (Stonehouse Town Council). (Councils and Democracy / Your Councillors / Town and Parish Councils)

Becoming a Councillor

Any vacancies between elections are usually filled by co-opting new Councillors. Vacancies are advertised on this website and on notice boards in the town.

The Council always welcomes and encourages interest from any eligible elector who is considering becoming a Councillor. If you would like to get more involved in your community, and are considering becoming a Councillor, then you can watch a video here.

To find out more about the difference that local Councils and Councillors make you can download a useful guide here. More information about a Councillor's responsibilities and a Council's functions are in the "Good Councillors Guide" here  (2.2MB file download).
