More new trees for Stonehouse as community takes action

29 October 2019 at 13:52

Nearly 50 local residents of all ages and backgrounds got their hands dirty to plant some trees on Sunday 20th Octoberas part of the town council’s inaugural Community Climate Action event.

Three large trees and seven saplings were planted by families, junior Park Runners, members of Stonehouse Action 4 Youth, allotment holders, local councillors and other community members. The saplings were provided by All Pulling Together (APT).

All participants were also asked to give their thoughts on how to:

  • reduce energy use
  • cut car use
  • create renewable energy
  • reduce meat consumption
  • reduce waste
  • increase tree planting

Councillor John Parker, Chair of the Stonehouse Climate Action Group, said: “I would like to thank everyone who came along to the Community Climate Event on Sunday.

“We had lots of great ideas about how we can become carbon neutral by 2030 and names of groups who will help us carry out some these actions.”

Eight more trees will be planted around the town in the next few weeks.”
