Objection to planning application for Ship Inn Site

Stroud District Council have applied for planning permission to build 9 dwellings for affordable housing on the Ship Inn site (application number S. 18/0492/FUL), near the Horsetrough Roundabout. Stonehouse Town Council have objected to the application as it believes Stroud District Council has missed an opportunity to develop the site to provide a link between the canal and town centre. The Ship Inn site could provide space for a footpath, moorings, slipway, a refreshment kiosk and seating area which could be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike and attract people in to town. Making sure that Stonehouse benefits from the regeneration of the canal is vital, especially as work on the Stonehouse to Saul section looks set to go ahead with the award of Heritage Lottery Funding. The Town Council also have concerns about access, the site’s suitability for housing, the proposed design in the context of the Industrial Heritage Conservation Area and loss of privacy for existing residents. Have your say on this application by using the Stroud District Council website Search Planning Applications page. Read the full objection from Stonehouse Town Council in the minutes of the Development Control Panel meeting of 30th April 2018 on the Meetings and Minutes page of our website.
