New waste and recycling collection service - bin delivery

12 August 2016 at 13:24

What's happening?

As well as the items that you currently recycle, you will be able to recycle all your food waste in new food waste bins.

Wheelie-bins will also be provided to replace black bags for your rubbish, which will be collected fortnightly, instead of weekly. Not everyone will be receiving a wheelie bin. There will be some exceptions dependent on type of property/access etc.

When will I get my new food waste and wheelie bins?

Your bins will be delivered to your property in Stonehouse between 15th August - 3rd October.

Stroud District Council will do their best to deliver within these dates but should there be any unforeseen circumstances/delays we will keep you informed.

As a point of reference, for those residents receiving a wheeled bin for their rubbish (landfill waste), their food waste bin and kitchen caddy will be placed inside the bin along with an information leaflet detailing the new service. There will be a sticker on top of the wheeled bin advising you NOT TO USE THE CONTAINERS UNTIL 1ST NOVEMBER.

For residents receiving sacks instead of wheeled bins, the sacks will be left with the food waste bin, kitchen caddy and information leaflet as close to the property as possible.

IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED YOUR CONTAINERS BY 20TH OCTOBER please email or call 01453 754424.

For more information about the new service please go to

Are you able to vote? Are your Electoral Register address details up-to-date?

12 August 2016 at 13:17

Fill out and return your forms.

During August, the Stroud District Council Elections Team will be sending out Household Enquiry forms to 52,600 properties in the district asking you to confirm or update your details for the electoral register which will be republished on the 1st December 2016.

The annual canvass is important because if you are not on the register you will be unable to vote in any future elections. Your credit score may be affected if you are not registered at your current address and you may have difficulty obtaining credit or opening a bank account.

If you do not have any changes to your details please respond either by telephone, text or online (where changes can be made using a unique security code) as detailed on your form.

To ensure as many people register as possible, legislation requires Stroud District Council to employ canvassers during October and November to visit those properties which do not return their canvass forms or who do not respond where no changes are required.

Please make sure you return your canvass form to avoid a visit!

To register to vote please go to

Severn Tunnel Upgrade

12 August 2016 at 13:05

Between Monday 12 September until Monday 24 October 2016.

Non-stop trains will run through Stonehouse at speeds of up to 90mph for a period of six weeks. These will be passenger and freight trains travelling to/from South Wales and are in addition to the normal timetabled stopping trains. This is because the direct line through the Severn Tunnel is closed for electrification work.

Stonehouse 26 footpath crossing (just the Stroud side of Stonehouse station) will be temporarily closed for public safety for the duration of these additional trains.

Read about the tunnel upgrade here.

For further information, please contact the Network Rail National Helpline on 03457 114141.
