Closure of M5 Standish Lane Overbridge - 24 hours a day 9th May - 30th October 2016

26 April 2016 at 11:14

Skansa will be carrying out essential works on the Standish Lane overbridge, which carries traffic over the M5 between junctions 12 and 13. The works will involve repairs to the bridge foundations due to the presence of Thaumasite and will include hydro-demolition works to the concrete bridge piers.

Due to the type of work taking place and to ensure the safety of both the public and their workforce, they will be closing Standish Lane overbridge to through traffic for the duration of the works, 24 hours a day, from the 9 May - 30 October 2016. There will be day and night time works on the overbridge.

During the closure, a clearly signed diversion route will be in place and details of the diversion can be found on the maps here - marked in blue. Access will be maintained to properties as shown overleaf.

Please note that whilst they always aim to work to the programme, unforeseen circumstances may mean slight changes to the programme. If this happens, they will do their best to notify the Council as soon as possible.

They have said they will make every effort to ensure that the impact of their works is kept to a minimum. They understand their works may cause some inconvenience and disruption to you, and they would like to apologise in advance and kindly ask for your patience whilst the works are taking place.

If you have any queries or comments about the works and would like further information, please call the Highways England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000.

Stonehouse Neighbourhood Plan update

11 April 2016 at 17:58

Local residents and Town Councillors are working together to shape, protect and enhance Stonehouse by producing a Neighbourhood Plan. The Plan sits alongside Stroud District’s Council Local Plan but is based on local consultation and evidence and provides more local detail. Once it is approved, after a referendum in the parish likely to be in 2017, all planning applications will have to conform to the plan.

Stonehouse Neighbourhood Plan Group have been developing the Plan since the Spring of 2014. Work is now is moving into the final stages before a draft goes to a 6 week public consultation in July-August.

Since the successful public consultation in October 2015 on emerging policies, the group has been working hard drafting policies on the themes of Amenities and Facilities, Getting Around, Housing, Economic Development and the Environment. A planning consultant, paid for by a grant from Locality, has been advising the group on the wording of draft policies and the evidence needed for them.

The policies aim to support the Neighbourhood Plan Vision:

“Over the next 15 years the strong, friendly community of Stonehouse will continue to develop as a distinctive, thriving town set in beautiful countryside with excellent transport links and employment opportunities.”

The draft policies cover a range of topics including encouraging better community facilities, protecting and enhancing footpaths and cycle paths and improving access for wheelchairs, pushchairs and invalid buggies, supporting local people who want to live in Stonehouse, supporting small and medium sized businesses and protecting open spaces and views.

The group are working on a Town Character Assessment which will give evidence for various policies including those on design and protection of views and open spaces. Some open spaces will be put forward to be designated as ‘Local Green Space’ which gives protection from development for some green spaces which are special to a local community. A case needs to be made, evidence gathered and owners contacted for each space being considered; the current list is Verney Fields, Boakes Drive Green, Park Estate Greens and Court View Newt Ponds.

A full draft should be completed by May 2016. Watch out for your invitation to the public consultation (dates to be confirmed but likely to be from July to the middle of August) which will be an insert in the June edition of Stonehouse News. The Group will respond to comments from the public consultation and submit a revised draft to Stroud District Council who will take the Plan through the rest of the process up to referendum in 2017.
