Bristol Road Station - case being considered again

07 April 2016 at 10:21

Stonehouse Town Council are delighted that their campaign to have the Bristol Road station opposite the Stonehouse Court Hotel, considered again. The local MP, representatives from the District Council, County Council, Town Council and local businesses are meeting today to progress the idea which we think would benefit Stonehouse, the surrounding communities and Stroud itself.

It will still be a long process, but it is one that the majority of respondents to the Neighbourhood Plan in Stonehouse are in favour of.  We hope all partners will work together to make this a reality.

Council & Trader engagement

05 April 2016 at 15:46

As usual at this pre-election time of year there is a little excitement caused by comments on Facebook and other social media sites.

The Council would like to take this opportunity to remind traders that they do not collect the business rates but have in the past year tried to assist in forming a Chamber of Trade to give the traders a voice. 150 invitations were sent out (by post & hand delivered) to local businesses but the uptake was very poor. The Chamber of Trade event had the President of Gloucester Chamber of Commerce and two representatives from local networking groups to help facilitate networking in the town.

The Council cannot guess the needs of traders but is naturally interested in ensuring the town keeps a wide range of small shops and a vibrant economy and that is why the Council is involved in providing Christmas Lights, Festivals and other events to increase the footfall during the year and will continue to consult on the Neighbourhood Plan. We will also investigate schemes and funding to assist where possible.

If you have an issue as a trader or resident may we remind you our door is always open and you can write to the townclerk@stonehousetowncouncil.com or by post in the first instance. Your issue can then be passed to the relevant committee for further discussion.

Stonehouse High Street improvement works

05 April 2016 at 15:45

The Regeneration Committee meeting of the 4th April was attended by a small number of traders and a candidate standing for election. The traders raised their concerns about the impending High Street improvements.

The Council have explained that the County Council will consult on their plans for resurfacing the shared space area in due course.

The Town Council have made the County Council aware that there is a need to keep Stonehouse open for business at all times and we have been told that the work will take place on Sundays.

Traders were also concerned about the parking review due to be carried out by the County Council. Please note this is not a Town Council consultation. The Council will only be a consultee. There will be more information on this matter in due course which will be reported through the Town Council’s website.
